Reagan National and Dulles Announce Free WiFi

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority is pleased to announce that wireless internet service is now free at Reagan National and Dulles International Airports. Customers on the go can enjoy a convenient connection from their wireless-enabled laptops or mobile devices. Previously, an access fee was charged to individuals who did not have a subscription with a major wireless carrier. Now, all users who select the Airport’s new free WiFi network can connect to the internet for free.

I-66 Pavement Rehab Begins April 4

From VDOT:

In April, the Virginia Department of Transportation begins a $48 million project to repair and resurface six and a half miles of badly deteriorated pavement on Interstate 66 between the Capital Beltway and Route 50 in Fairfax County. To minimize impacts to motorists, all lane closures will take place at night—between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights. The project will be complete in the fall of 2012.

Beginning April 4, two of three lanes on eastbound I-66 will be closed weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between the Beltway and Route 50.

Beginning Monday, April 18, the same closures will begin 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights on westbound I-66 between the Beltway and Route 50. Crews will limit the work zones to about two miles at a time. The closures in both directions will continue Sunday through Thursday nights through November 2012, weather permitting.

Board of Supervisors Recommends Names for Dulles Metrorail Stations

Yesterday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recommended names for the eight Metrorail stations that are part of the Dulles Metrorail Project. The names, which must be approved by the Washington Metro Transit Authority board of directors, are as follows:

  • Tysons-McLean
  • Tysons I & II
  • Tysons Central
  • Tysons-Spring Hill Rd
  • Reston-Wiehle Ave
  • Reston Town Center
  • Herndon-Reston West
  • Herndon-Dulles East

Each proposed station name connotes a community: Tysons, Reston, Herndon, or McLean. Some include street names while others include the name of shopping malls and a town center.

Capital Beltway and Telegraph Road Closures Continue through April

From Virginia Department of Transportation:

Daytime closures of the Telegraph Road northbound and southbound ramps to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop (I-95/495 North) will continue through the end of April. Closures will occur daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and occasionally on weekends from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

Motorists traveling north on Telegraph Road should make a right on eastbound Huntington Avenue to northbound Route 1 to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop.  Motorists traveling south on Telegraph Road should take the ramp over Telegraph Road onto Huntington Avenue to northbound Route 1 to the Capital Beltway Outer Loop.

Irish eyes will be smiling and toes will be tapping at Washington’s airports on Thursday, March 17 when Irish dancers perform—part of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority’s new performing arts program.

The Airports Authority brings musicians, singers, dancers and other artists to Reagan National and Dulles to provide entertainment for our passengers to enjoy throughout the year. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, dancers from the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance in Silver Spring will be performing at both airports. Here is the schedule:
