Cub Scouts Tour Loudoun County Landfill

From Loudoun County -- Cub Scouts from Pack 1148 in South Riding recently visited the Loudoun County landfill for a tour.  Members of the group were fascinated that they were riding on a “mountain of trash.”

The Loudoun County landfill is located at 21101 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg, and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.  Tours are currently being scheduled for July through November, call 703-771-5514 for information.

This Earth Day, Focus on Heavy Metals in the Environment

As the world celebrates Earth Day, environmental problems will be widely discussed. What many people are just beginning to realize is that some of these issues, like the increasing amounts of heavy metals such as mercury and lead in our environment, can have a direct and negative impact on human health.

Annual Arbor Day Celebration in Old Town Manassas Features George Carr Round

The 27th annual Arbor Day Celebration, presented by the City of Manassas Beautification Committee, will be held on Fri., Apr. 29 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the Old Courthouse lawn in Old Town Manassas, featuring guest speaker, George Carr Round, a Union Army Signal Corps veteran, played by Doug Nelson of Prince William County, Va.  Round was significant in creating the town of Manassas and organized the 1911 Peace Jubilee. Round will also be at the National Peace Jubilee event on Thurs., July 21 at the Old Courthouse lawn.
